Challenges
We decided to place a deadline on the round robin challenge described below: We will be unveiling these at the May meeting. So if you want to work on all of them, stop by Susan's and pick one up that you haven't done anything to yet. She has them in a drawer in the sewing room.
Also, Ana suggested a new challenge: We will be incorporating a small tin, such as a tea or Altoid tin, into a small quilt. The quilt can be small, no bigger than a fat quarter (18" x 22"). Deadline is the August meeting.
Starting at the June 18, 2012 meeting, participants will bring the beginning of an art quilt in a paper bag with thier name on it. It will then travel through the group, changing hands each month, until everyone has had a chance to do something to it using a surface design or non-traditional quilting technique such as thread painting, bleaching, metal, markers, foiling, etc. Don't just add borders. Leave the binding for the owner who can decide whether to enlarge it when it is returned to her.
At our May meeting it was suggested that each piece start out between 12" and 30" but this is a guideline, not a rule. Your starting piece should be clearly unfinished with plenty of room for improvement, such as the background for a landscape, a Christmas tree with no decorations, outer space with no galaxies, or something abstract for example. This challenge would be perfect for ufo's too. Batting and backing are optional. This challenge will conclude in May 2013.
